Signs You May Need a Sprinkler Repair

Although most sprinkler equipment is underground, there are times when you may need sprinkler repairs.
Here are some of the more obvious signs to look for when your irrigation system isn’t working properly:
  • A leak around your sprinkler valve:  This can be caused by either Low Head Drainage which is when the lowest head in a zone allows the water to drain.  A leak can also be caused by water leaking from the zone valve.  This type of leak is commonly caused by debris blocking the valve’s diaphragm.
  • Brown spots in your yard:  A sprinkler head that has been installed too low will prevent water from spraying properly.  This will lead to gaps not being reached by the sprinkler and could cause flooding around the sprinkler head.
  • Clogged sprinkler nozzles:  Dirt and debris working its way into the sprinkler nozzle often times will cause the nozzle to become clogged.  This can also cause the sprinkler head not to spray properly.
  • Uneven growth:  If you notice parts of your lawn growing more rapidly than others, your sprinkler heads may not be installed with the proper distance between them.  You may not notice uneven growth until there is a dry spell with no rain.  When your lawn depends on your irrigation system only, you may then notice uneven growth or brown spots.

Sprinkler Controller/Timer Repair

Irrigation system timers are one of the main parts of your system.  These mechanisms tell your zones or valves when to turn on, how long to stay on and when to turn off.   There are many different reasons your timer may not be working.  If your timer doesn’t have any power, it could be something as simple as a blown fuse or as complex as the controller board failing.  Our sprinkler technicians are trained to replace the controller board and to re-program it to be sure all zones are working properly.

Zones Not Working?

A common problem of zones not working properly is caused by an electrical problem.  There are several problems that could cause a zone or zones to stop working.  There could be low or no voltage to the bad zone.  There could also be problems with a fuse or the transformer or there could be a defective valve.  We have many years of experience working with controllers, breakers, transformers and solenoids.  Give us a call and we will be happy to get your zones back up and running.

Broken Sprinkler Lines

The two most common signs that you may have a broken sprinkler line are wet spots and low pressure.  If you notice some spots on your lawn that are more wet than usual there may be a broken line.  Signs to look for are pools or puddles of water in one area or soft ground and mud which would appear by the break.  Low pressure is another sign.  For example, your irrigation system doesn’t seem to be performing quite right or the water pressure is lower than usual.  Some causes of sprinkler line breakage:
  • Age:  Normal wear and tear can cause lines to break after a long period of time.  If this is the case, sometimes it is just better to replace all of the lines before you have another one break in a different zone.
  • Weight:  Even though sprinkler lines are made from strong and durable plastics, they still can break when under a lot of heavy weight.  This may occur during additional construction being done after the sprinkler system has been installed.
  • Animals:  Luckily it does not happen often, but there are times when animals will chew through sprinkler lines.
  • Digging:  Probably the most common of causes, digging in your yard can cause damage to the lines.  Even if you are just digging a flower bed, if you are not conscious of where the lines are, you may unintentionally cut one.

One of Clermont Sprinkler Repair’s technicians will come to your home, detect the leak and have it fixed and working properly in no time.  If you are in need of new sprinkler lines, you can count on us to explain your options to you so you can choose one that will fit your irrigation needs and budget.
